The regular meeting was held starting at 6:00 p.m.

Mrs. Jennifer Wykes, Hanover-Horton PTA Treasurer, updated the board on the many projects that the PTA was involved in this school year.

The board approved the 2024-25 school year calendar.  It basically mirrors the current school year calendar, except the March professional development day was moved to May.

The first reading of NEOLA Vol. 38, No. 2 policy changes were approved, with the exception of policy 2410, 2414, and 2418, which were excluded from the reading.

The board approved the purchase of new computers for the district, not to exceed the purchase price of $174,000.00.  The PC-based computers currently being used in the district will no longer be supported by Microsoft, as they run Windows 10, and the ISD will not allow them on the network due to the vulnerability of hacking/viruses.

The Strategic Plan Quarterly Update was tabled until the June meeting.

The board passed the Resolution of Approval for the JCISD Preliminary 2025 Fiscal Year Budget.

Superintendent comment:

  • Graduation is next week.  Board members, please let the office know if you’re attending.
  • Senior Honors Night will be on Thursday next week.
  • Spring sports are doing well.

Board member comment:

  • Thank you to the PTA for everything they do; it makes a big difference for our kids.
  • Board members are looking forward to graduation.
  • Some members have attended an event in Lansing and it was very informative.
  • The JCASB met at East Jackson and learned of a class there based on precision measuring; the board is interested in getting more information on that class.
  • The youth baseball/softball league had an opening day event that was very well run.  They serve approximately 300 children in the community on 30 teams.
  • Discussion was held regarding building/gym use.
  • The board will reach out to the ISD regarding the newly revised superintendent evaluation trainings.

The regular meeting was adjourned at 7:03 p.m.
