Two thank you notes from graduated seniors for the Ruth Creps Scholarship were read by Mrs. Scott.
Superintendent Bergstrom presented “Superintendent Spotlight” certificates to students and employees throughout the district who have shown outstanding effort this school year.
The district’s building principals were presented with certificates in honor of National Principals Month.
The September 2025 meeting minutes and treasurer’s report were approved with no changes.
There were no public comments.
The board approved the annual Summer Tax Resolution, which allows our school district to collect half of our portion of tax revenues collected by the townships in our school district.
A renewal of the Jackson ISD Cooperative Purchasing Agreement was approved. This agreement establishes a cooperative purchasing process under which JCISD may solicit bids or proposals on behalf of our district and will be effective through 2028.
The board approved the anticipated costs of the Arctic Wolf cybersecurity coverage through 2028. The Arctic Wolf program is a requirement of SET SEG, our insurance company.
Superintendent Bergstrom updated the board regarding the renewal of the sinking fund proposal election in November. She will be available at parent/teacher conferences to provide information and answer any questions from the community. Postcards have been printed and are currently being mailed to residents. A banner and FAQ sheet will be posted on the district’s website.
Music Booster officers were approved by the board for the 2025-26 school year.
Superintendent Bergstrom reported to the board members on the following:
- The audio/visual system installation in the high school cafeteria that was purchased with FAFSA Challenge Grant funds has been completed.
- We have received a generous donation of used laptops from Consumers Energy.
- Juniors took a field trip to Jackson College, Spring Arbor University, and Albion College, and 80% reported that they would recommend the tour to other students.
- New coaches have been hired for 8th grade boys basketball, boys golf, and boys and girls bowling. Varsity baseball and softball interviews are being held this week.
- The H-H Mini Grant committee is meeting on Wednesday to award grants.
- The Senior Passing of the Comet Spirit will be held at the football game (Senior Night) on Friday, October 17th.
- Most of our staff will be attending the countywide PD Day at Jackson High on October 20th.
- The first marking period for the high school ends on Friday, October 17th.
- Parent/teacher conferences will be held on October 23rd and 24th.
- Fall athletics are ramping up for conference/district/post season play.
- Space in the high school near the concession stand is being revamped to create a store for H-H gear, to be run by the Athletic Boosters.
- The Fall Festival at the elementary school will take place on Thursday, October 30th at 5:00-6:30 p.m.
- Comets Give Back Day will be on November 3rd.
The board members commented on the following:
- The board recognizes the building principals for National Principals Month and thanks them for all they do.
- The board is glad that students will be participating in Comets Give Back Day.
- The Jackson County School Board meeting was held at the main ISD campus; the facility is very nice.
- Will there be signage for the new entrance for athletic events?
- The board appreciates the postcards being mailed to residents for the November election for the renewal of the sinking fund.
