The regular meeting was held starting at 6:00 p.m.

The board recognized the accomplishments of spring 2024 student athletes.

The July 2024 meeting minutes and treasurer’s report were approved with a date change to the July minutes.

There were no public comments.

The board approved the purchase of new walk-in coolers and air units at the elementary and high schools for the Food Service Department.

The board nominated and approved reinstating board members to the following committees:

Operations Committee:  Ms. Proctor, Mr. Evans, Mrs. Sears

Curriculum Committee:  Mr. Blackledge, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Sears

Personnel/Finance Committee:  Mr. Densmore, Mr. Evans, Mrs. Flick

The operating millage proposal to increase non-homestead millage to not more than 18 mills was passed in the August 6, 2024 election.  The board discussed levying this millage increase for the upcoming winter tax collection.  Revised L-4029 forms will be presented at the next board meeting in September.

There will be a special board meeting on September 3rd at 5:00 pm in the Library Media Center for Superintendent Evaluation and Rater Reliability Training.

Superintendent Bergstrom reported to the board members on the following:

  • Thank you to the summer school staff at the elementary and credit recovery at the high school. The pop-up events at the elementary were impressive.  An average of 62 elementary students attended summer school.
  • The district’s financial audit was completed last week.
  • Erin Beach was chosen for JTV’s first Educator Spotlight and will appear on the Bart Hawley Show.
  • The Life of an Athlete meeting was held last night.
  • Band camp was held last week, and numbers were up.
  • The School Improvement Committee and Steering Committee met to get ready for school starting. Teachers will be meeting by department to discuss gap analysis and how to address.
  • The district’s new desktop computers have arrived and are being installed.
  • The August district newsletter should be arriving in mailboxes at any time.
  • We are reinstituting the one-way traffic pattern at the middle/high school complex during morning drop-offs.
  • Thank you to the custodians and maintenance department for the phenomenal job getting the buildings ready for next week.
  • Back-to-school open houses will be on Monday, August 19th.

The board members commented on the following:

  • It was nice to see the student athletes here tonight that were being recognized for spring sports.
  • The board was impressed with the Life of an Athlete meeting.
  • It would be nice to get flag workers for the parking lot during the first couple weeks of school.
  • The back-to-school email from Mr. Waltz was very nice.
  • Congratulations to Erin Beach and a job well done on the JTV interview.
  • The Comet Community Coffee was fun; it was nice to talk to community members. The board is looking forward to another session.
  • Board members were reminded of the upcoming Annual Leadership Conference in October.
  • The board is proud of administrators, teachers, and support staff. It is an honor to serve on the board.
