The regular meeting was held starting at 6:00 p.m.
Mrs. Scott read to the board the thank you notes that were received from four graduating seniors who received the Ruth Creps Scholarship.
Superintendent Bergstrom presented “Superintendent Spotlight” certificates to students and an employee throughout the district who have shown outstanding effort this school year.
The board recognized the accomplishments of winter sports athletes.
The meeting agenda, May meeting minutes, and treasurer’s report were approved with no changes.
Mrs. Jennifer Wykes, PTA President, presented the PTA’s budget report for the 2024-25 school year to the board which showed their activities, income, and expenditures for the year. A total of $36,187.14 was spent to benefit our district’s staff and students.
The board set the date of Monday, July 14, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. for the organizational meeting.
The 2025-26 MHSAA Membership Resolution, which allows our district to participate in post-season MHSAA-sponsored sports tournaments, was approved.
The second reading of NEOLA Vol. 39, No. 2 remaining policy updates was approved.
The board approved an audio system upgrade to the high school cafeteria in the form of new speakers.
The board approved an upgrade to the visual display system in the high school cafeteria, which will include a new projector and screen. Both the audio and visual system upgrades will be funded by the FAFSA grant previously awarded to the district.
The 2025 Tax Rate Request was approved. This is the millage request that goes to the county and township treasurers and clerks annually.
The board discussed the possibility of a sinking fund renewal and a bond debt collection to be put on a ballot within the next year and what election cycle would be the best time for that. This is an informational item, and discussion will be tabled until the Budget Hearing next week on Monday, June 23, 2025.
The hiring of four new teachers was approved:
Mrs. Rachel Burlingame – Middle School Social Studies
Ms. Allison Lipovsky – High School Social Studies
Mr. Frank Stepnowski – Middle/High School Mathematics
Mrs. Jena McKnight – Middle/High School Art
Superintendent Bergstrom reported to the board members on the following:
- Welcome to new teachers.
- Good luck to our graduated seniors, and thanks to the high school administration for another impressive graduation ceremony.
- Thank you to Mr. Cottrell, Mrs. Davis-Green, and Mrs. Iseler for putting together a nice graduation ceremony for our virtual graduates.
- Thank you to students, teachers, staff, and administration for a good school year. Have a safe summer!
he board members commented on the following:
- Welcome to new staff.
- The board was impressed with the JTV interview of Supt. Bergstrom and Mr. VanEpps.
- The board enjoyed seeing the award recipients.
- The MASB Summer Institute in Lansing is coming up in August.
- Thank you to Jennifer Wykes as she steps down from the PTA for everything she has done for the district.
The board entered into closed session at 7:18 p.m. for the purpose of the Superintendent’s evaluation. The open meeting was reconvened at 9:10 p.m. and the Superintendent’s evaluation score was accepted.
