The regular meeting was held starting at 6:00 p.m.
Superintendent Bergstrom presented “Superintendent Spotlight” certificates to students and employees throughout the district who have shown outstanding effort this school year.
Student Council reports that they are writing thank you notes to volunteers who helped with SnowFest. They received many compliments on the hall decorating from visitors to the building. Spirit assembly games were modified to increase participation. Attendance was strong at the SnowFest dance, which took place on Saturday. Plans for the spring pep assembly are in the works.
The board agreed to support and cast the Hanover-Horton Board of Education’s vote for Guillermo Lopez as the Region 7 representative in the MASB Board of Directors election.
Superintendent Bergstrom outlined the process of developing the Strategic Plan Year Two Implementation, after a meeting with Julie Kaminski of the MASB, as well as the school improvement team, and the board supported this process.
The board reviewed the first reading of NEOLA EDGAR UGG updates.
Superintendent Bergstrom reported to the board members on the following:
• It’s been a busy month with lots of athletic events, boys basketball at Little Caesar’s Arena, the PTA Daddy-Daughter Dance, Athletic Booster Cash Bash, and many night time and weekend activities for all staff.
• SnowFest was a success; thanks to Adam Bulgrien, Student Council, and Class Advisors.
• The Competitive Cheer team won their first ever conference championship. Districts will be coming up on Friday.
• Wrestlers competed in district competition, and five wrestlers will move on to regional competition on Saturday.
• In music department news, several high school band members participated in District Solo & Ensemble and will be advancing to the state level on March 15th in Chelsea. The MSBOA Jazz Festival was held on February 4th, and our jazz band performed, received feedback, and participated in a clinic. The mattress fundraiser was a success, with $8500 being raised for the music department. Several band members will be participating in District 8 Honors Band on March 18th.
• The Jackson County school calendar waiver was approved, so school will continue to start before Labor Day next school year.
• Plans for the elementary March is Reading Month activities are set. Staff and board members should let Joe Ayers know if they would like to read in classrooms. The theme this year will be from the book “The Mouse and the Motorcycle.” There will be a Science Night on March 13th to go along with STEM activities.
• Thank you to Mr. Ayers, Mrs. Duffrin, and Mrs. Cytlak for presenting at the JCSBA meeting hosted in our district last Saturday.
• Unfortunately, many students and staff are ill right now, and a letter was sent to families today from our school nurse.
The board members commented on the following:
• The personnel committee and facility committee meetings were informative.
• Mr. Ayers, Mrs. Duffrin, and Mrs. Cytlak did a great job of presenting at the JCSBA meeting last Saturday.
• The fundraisers held after Christmas have been successful, and the board is thankful for the community support.
• The board appreciated the Superintendent Spotlight recognition of the transportation department.
• Thank you to administrators and staff for the time they put in every night at school.
