The regular meeting was held starting at 6:00 p.m.

Miss Sophie Schuette, Student Council President, updated the board on recent Student Council activities. The theme for hallway decorating is fictional places; Round 2 of SnowFest voting ends on Wednesday at 6 p.m.; planning for assembly games is in the works; Student Council is trying to find a DJ.

Superintendent Bergstrom presented “Superintendent Spotlight” certificates to students throughout the district who have shown outstanding effort.

The meeting minutes and treasurer’s report were approved for the regular meeting held in November.

During public comment, several volleyball parents and a community member voiced their concerns with the volleyball program/varsity coach.

The board approved the annual middle school Mackinac field trip, to take place May 14-16, 2025.

The board also approved a band and choir field trip to Chicago in March of 2026.

The board discussed the possibility of school branding of a Hanover-Horton logo and setting guidelines for school colors of uniforms. The board would like to form a committee to form a branding guide which would establish guidelines for vendors, new uniforms, etc.

A resolution was approved by the board, as drafted by the Michigan Association of School Boards, to address the lack of statewide tobacco prevention policies.

The board approved the first reading of NEOLA policy updates:
NEOLA Special Update – Title IX – June 2024; and Vol. 39, No. 1 – September 2024.

Superintendent Bergstrom reported to the board members on the following:
• Winter sports are underway.
• High school students’ portfolio presentations have started and will wrap up this week.
• High school exams are next Wednesday and Thursday.
• The high school Christmas concert will be on December 10th and the middle school Christmas concert will be on December 19th.
• Our band performed for our elementary students.
• The Jazz Band and Choir performed last weekend at the H-H Historical Museum.
• Our first grade students will be caroling for middle and school students next week.
• Happy holiday season to all!

The board members commented on the following:
• The county school board meeting was held at Napoleon Alternative and their program was explained to the attendees.
• We may want to tweak our Comet Community Coffee sessions and check to see how other schools run their community meetings.
• It’s exciting and encouraging to hear about the upcoming field trips for school groups.
• The board enjoys the Superintendent Spotlight presentations.
• Board members would volunteer to be on the school branding committee.
• The board appreciates everyone being here tonight. They do listen to and act upon concerns.
• Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The board went into closed session at 7:20 p.m. and reconvened the open meeting at 8:30 p.m.

The regular meeting was adjourned at 8:31 p.m.
