The regular was held starting at 6:00 p.m.
A thank you note from a graduated senior for the Ruth Creps Scholarship was read by Mrs. Scott.
The July 2025 regular and August 2025 special meeting minutes and treasurer’s report were approved with no changes.
There were no public comments.
Strategic Plan Update (I)
Superintendent Bergstrom updated the board on the goals that have been met toward the district’s strategic plan for the first and second quarter:
Focus Area 1, Academics & Programs: Reviewed the process for identifying students for intervention; Establishing SAT and STARS meetings for upcoming school year; Staff will analyze data from previous year to determine interventions (RTI services, FAST, and Transitions class placements); Created a student interest survey (administered to high school students this spring – results will be analyzed); Seek out adult volunteers for new activities.
Focus Area 2, Learning Environment & Culture: Elementary continuing with ticket system; Middle School Planning Committee meeting to formalize pieces already in place (positive behavior, referrals, etc.); High school focusing on SEL plans for now.
Focus Area 3, Communication & Community Engagement: Parent Communication Guides (one-page quick reference); Parent Curriculum Guide (available at fall conferences); Standing item on Department Meeting agenda.
Focus Area 4, Personnel & Leadership: Open positions advertised on MASA, Handshake, Indeed; Continued partnerships with colleges and universities; Mentor/Mentee survey; Analyzed results; New Teacher Orientation; Welcome Bags for new staff.
Focus Area 5, Operations: Inventory list of current technology – still a work in progress; E-Rate projects to be announced; Update to cloud for phones/fax; New copiers/printers; Filter First Law – new faucets/drinking fountains.
The board approved the hiring of Mr. Noah Flint as a high school Spanish teacher for the 2025-26 school year.
The board approved the hiring of Mr. Clark Vinton as a high school English teacher.
Superintendent Bergstrom reported to the board members on the following:
- No information has been received from the state yet regarding the school budget.
- We will be posting a vacancy for a kindergarten teacher and avoiding the 3-4 split classroom in the elementary.
- We are excited to host Mr. Kevin Guzzo, Athletic Director at St. Joseph Schools, to speak at our back-to-school luncheon on August 18th.
- Breakfast and lunches will continue to be free for all students, at least through October 2nd.
- Band camp took place last week, and the band is growing.
- The sound system and projector screen project in the high school cafeteria is on hold.
- Thank you to the teachers and RTI instructors for conducting summer school. The elementary had three pop-in events throughout the summer that were well attended.
- Shout out to A.J. Fielder, student maintenance worker, and the rest of the maintenance staff for a phenomenal job this summer.
The board members commented on the following:
- The board is happy with the new athletic handbook rules that have been put in place and appreciated the presentation by Mr. VanEpps, Athletic Director, at the recent Life of an Athlete meeting.
- The board is thrilled with the new teachers that have been hired.
- The board appreciates the strategic plan update.
- Thank you for everyone’s hard work over the summer.
