The regular meeting was held starting at 6:00 p.m.
Athletic awards were presented to those winter and fall athletes who received regional and state recognition.
Superintendent Bergstrom discussed the following projects with the board:
2026 Bond
Progress on the bond projects have been moving forward this summer. Superintendent Bergstrom has met with the contractor and engineers to tour the district buildings. Billy White Roofing has taken core samples of the roofs to help develop specifications for roof replacement. Requests for Proposals will hopefully be sent out in January. Up next will be window assessments.
Audit
The field work for the annual district audit was completed last week by the new auditing firm, Hungerford CPA’s. The audit went very smoothly. The preliminary audit report should be available by the end of September. The board was offered two options as to how the auditors can present their findings; either an overview for the full board, or a more in-depth presentation to the finance committee. The board decided that they would like an overview to the full board, especially since this was the first time that Hungerford CPA’s has completed the district’s audit.
Dynamic Library
Plans are coming along for the transition of the elementary library to become a Dynamic Library and Learning Lab. Bookshelves are being moved and new furniture will be ordered soon. Lomar Machine and Tool will be visiting next week to get an idea of how to fabricate an arch to add to the library. Lomar has very graciously offered to match any donations raised. The H-H PTA has generously donated $18,000. Our ultimate goal is to raise $120,000 for this project. Superintendent Bergstrom will present this project on JTV on August 26th, to the Wake Up Jackson event held by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce on September 10th, and to the Hanover-Horton Business Group on September 15th . She will be discussing partnerships with businesses, community organizations, and schools.
Superintendent Bergstrom reported to the board members on the following:
- New vinyl plank flooring has been installed on the elementary stage.
- The entrance ways at the middle school gym and between the middle and high school are being refurbished and new flooring installed.
- The glass for the state championship trophy case has been installed and the trophies have been moved to the new case. There will be a larger H-H sign placed above the trophy case, as well as a new sign to the right of the case.
- The maintenance and custodial departments have been very busy this summer.
- Mrs. Arbuckle has received a grant from the Community Foundation for keyboards.
- Band Camp took place last week, and Fall sports started today.
- The district newsletter is being printed by a new company and should be in the mail before school starts, but will be emailed electronically this week to district families.
- Open houses and staff luncheon will be on Monday, August 24th.
- Thank you to Melissa Bulgrien and volunteers for organizing the summer pop-up events at the elementary school.
- Congratulations to Joe Ayers on becoming a grandpa!
The board members commented on the following:
- The board members enjoyed the athletic awards; it was nice to see teams come to the meeting to support the athletes receiving awards.
- Thank you to Chris Van Epps for informing the board of recent athletic updates.
- The board discussed the possibility of an academic wall to go along with our athletic wall.
- There is a new drop box from the Jackson District Library by the flagpole in front of the high school.
