The Hanover Horton Men’s Varsity Soccer team hit the road on Thursday, September 22nd to face off against Hillsdale Academy. The comets were expecting a tough match due to Hillsdale Academy’s performance last season. They knew that facing off with Hillsdale Academy, a Division 4 team ranked 10th, would be a struggle.
Hillsdale Academy played a very strong game. They put together persistent attacks throughout the first half. The comets were overwhelmed by the size, speed, and skill of Hillsdale Academy, a team that consisted of mainly upperclassman. The comet’s offense was struggling to move the ball up the field while the defense was having trouble stopping Hillsdale Academy’s attacks. The score of the game at halftime was 6-0 with Hillsdale Academy leading.
During the second half, the comets had a much better performance than in the first half of the game. The comets were holding up well against Hillsdale Academy The comet’s offense was starting to put together stronger attacks and their defense was able to stop more of the Hillsdale Academy’s attacks. Sophomore goalie Sam York was able to block most of Hillsdale Academy’s shots during the second half. Hillsdale Academy scored 2 goals in the second half, making the final score 8-0.
The comet’s record is now 1-4 in their conference and 2-6-1 in their league. The comets hope to win their next game against Quincy, which is at home on Monday, September 26th.
