Hanover-Horton took control of Friday night’s football game late in the 2nd quarter scoring 22 unanswered points in the last 4:49 of the half and went on to defeat East Jackson 42-12 for the Comets first victory of the season. The Trojans opened the scoring after a misplaced Comet punt with a Zachary Seymour run of 1 yard. Even though the Trojans only had to travel 28 yards on the drive they converted two key fourth down plays. The try for two was unsuccessful and East Jackson had a 6-0 lead 2 minutes into the game.
The Comets came right back and scored on Frank Bird’s 11 yard TD run to knot the score at 6-6.The Comets drove down the field early in the second quarter and appeared to score on a Bird 10 yard run but a block in the back forced a turnover on downs. With 4:49 left in the have Austin Kilgore scored the first of his three consecutive scores with a 12 yard run. After an Evan Harold interception on Kilgore went 41 yards on an inside trap. Kilgore capped the half off with a 15 yard run with just :12 seconds remaining. Trevor Keeler converted two of the three extra points and the Comets had 28-6 half time lead.
East jackson scored on Kyle Kerley’s 3 yard run midway through the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 28-12. The Comets came right back and scored on Junior running back Chandler Vance’s 1 yard run. Again Keeler converted the two point run. Ty Lapshan finished the scoring early in the 4th quarter with a 10 yard run.
The Comets dominated the statistics putting up 413 yards to the Trojans 182. Kilgore led all rushers with 127 yards. Lapshan added 93 while Vance had 40. Bird was 3-7 passing for 29 yards. On defense the Comets were led by Zach Miles who contributed 9.5 tackles including 3 for loss. Chandler Vance had 7 tackles, Skylar Canales hd 6.5 and Hunter Robinson added 6 tackles.
The Comets return to action next Friday and face the Addison Panthers for Homecoming.
