FALL SEASON – SPECIAL AWARDS

 

The Varsity Boys’ Cross Country team

            Ending Record: Overall 138-22. Conference 7-0.  The boys’ team finished unbeaten in Cascades Conference duals, won the Cascades Conference Championship (6th consecutive year), and finished 4th in the Division 3 Regional.

            Banquet Awards: Taylor Heath (MVP), Ben Hazard (MIP) and Jon Clore & Derek Kinney (Co-Coach’s Award).

            All-Conference: Taylor Heath, Matt Konieczki, Bryce Stroede and Jon Clore.

All-Conference Honorable Mention: Zak Mudge.

All-County: Taylor Heath, Matt Konieczki and Jon Clore (1st team) and Bryce Stroede (2nd team).

The Varsity Girls’ Cross Country team

Ending Record: Overall 187-1.  Conference 7-0.  The girls’ team finished unbeaten in Cascades Conference duals, won the Cascades Conference Championship (10th consecutive year), won the Division 3 Regional and won the Division 3 State Championship.  STATE CHAMPS!

            Banquet Awards: Sharon Morgan & Emily Wrozek (Co-MVP), Sarah Chinavare (MIP) and Kaitlyn Wyble (Coach’s Award).

            All-Conference: Lindsey Burdette, Sharon Morgan, Megan Hubbard, Sierra Melling, Kelly Morgan, Emily Wrozek and Lindsey Chinavare.

            All-County: Lindsey Burdette, Megan Hubbard, Lindsey Chinavare, Kelly Morgan and Sharon Morgan (1st team).

            All-Area: Lindsey Burdette, Megan Hubbard and Emily Wrozek (Dream Team), Lindsey Chinavare and Sharon Morgan (2nd Team), Kelly Morgan (3rd Team) and Sierra Melling (Special Mention).

            State Qualifier: The girls’ team (Megan Hubbard, Lindsey Burdette, Emily Wrozek, Sharon Morgan, Lindsey Chinavare, Kelly Morgan and Sierra Melling).

            All-State: Megan Hubbard, Lindsey Burdette, Emily Wrozek, Sharon Morgan and Lindsey Chinavare.

            Academic All-Conference: Sarah Chinavare, Jordan Kellogg, Emily Myers and Kaitlyn Wyble.

            Academic All-State Team: Girls’ Cross Country Team (Placed 6th in the state with a 3.840 GPA).

            Academic All-State: Lindsey Chinavare, Sharon Morgan and Emily Wrozek.

            Dean Blackledge: Earned the “Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Cross Country Coach of the Year” award, won the “Jensen Coach of the Year” award as the area’s top coach and was named the “Citizen Patriot All-Area Girls Cross Country Coach”.

            Banquet Awards: Madeline Mortimer (MVP), Lindsey Wyble (MIP) and Taylor Gray (Coach’s Award).

            Academic All-Conference: Whitney Schuette.

Ending Record: Overall 1-8.  Conference 0-7.

The JV Football team

            Ending Record: Overall 7-2 (Concord game was recorded as a win/forfeit). Conference 5-2. 

           

The Varsity Girls’ Golf team

            Ending Record: Conference Standings – Finished 4th.  (Final Jamboree Standings: 4th place and Cascades Conference meet: 4th place).  Finished in 4th place at the Regional.

            Banquet Awards: Danielle Hazard (MVP), Kaitlyn Thayer (MIP), Stacey Richardson (Coach’s Award) and Kaitlyn Thayer (Sportsmanship). 

            All-Conference: Danielle Hazard.

            All-Conference Honorable Mention: Alyssa Fausneaucht and Kaitlyn Thayer.

            All-Area: Danielle Hazard (3rd team) and Kaitlyn Thayer (3rd team).

The Varsity Volleyball team

            Ending Record: Overall 16-33-3.  Conference 8-2.  The girls’ won their 26th consecutive Cascades Conference Championship, won their 12th consecutive Class C District title and lost in the Regional Semifinals.

            Banquet Awards: Taylor Luce (MVP), Katie Wahlund (MIP) and Alana Miles (Coach’s Award).

            All-Conference: Jasmin Bachelder, Taylor Luce and Hayley Mudge.

            All-Conference Honorable Mention: Allison Clark and Brianne Wollpert.

            All-Area: Jasmin Bachelder (Dream Team) and Taylor Luce (C-D Team).

            All-Area Honorable Mention: Hayley Mudge.

            Ending Record: Overall 21-3.  Conference 13-1.  Cascades Conference Champions (finished 1st in the Conference), Class C District Champions (9th consecutive district title) and lost in the Class C Regional Finals.

            Ending Record: Overall 14-5.  Conference 9-5.

The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team

            Ending Record: Overall 7-15.  Conference 3-11.  Conference Standings – Finished in 6th place tied with East Jackson.  Lost in the semi-finals of the Class C Districts.

            Banquet Awards: Rae Anne Negus (MVP), Linzey Yeaster (MIP) and Ashley Bernard & Rosemary Wendt (Co-Coach’s Award). 

            All- Conference Honorable Mention: Ashley Bernard, Rae Anne Negus and Brianne Wollpert.

            Academic All-Conference: Ashley Bernard, Jordan Kellogg, Rae Anne Negus, Rosemary Wendt and Linzey Yeaster.

            NOTE POSSIBILITY: Academic All-State Team: Girls’ Basketball Team (Class C with a 3.68 GPA).  We will not know the results until the middle of May.

            Ending Record: Overall 11-9.  Conference 9-5.

            Ending Record: Finished 8th in the Conference and 7th in the Districts.

            Ending Record: Overall 3-11.  Finished 7th in the Conference and lost in the District finals.

The Boys’ Bowling Club team

            Ending Record: 2-8 (A team) and 2-5 (B team).  Final Standings (Position Round) placed 9th and finished 9th at Regional. 

            All-Conference Honorable Mention: Jim Fischmeister.

            Ending Record: 2-8 (A team) and 2-4 (B team).  Final Standings (Position Round) placed 9th and finished 12th in the Regional.

MAY 28, 2010 THROUGH JUNE 3, 2010

 

The Varsity Baseball team

            June 1st – Lost a doubleheader to Vandercook Lake 1-9 and 4-7.  Michael Archer, Nick Heath and Ryan O’Dowd had 3 hits each on the night.

            June 1st – Districts hosted by Hanover-Horton: Reading defeated Albion.  The district semi-finals and finals will be played on Saturday, June 5th starting @ 10:00 a.m. (Reading vs. Hanover-Horton) and 1:00 p.m. (Hillsdale vs. Jonesville).  The finals will be played @ 4:00 p.m. 

            Record: Overall 4-21 (One game cancelled due to weather).  Conference 1-13.

 

The JV Baseball team

            Ending Record: Overall 4-8 (Two games called due to darkness & seven games cancelled due to weather).  Conference 3-7 (One game called due to darkness & three games cancelled due to weather).

 

The Varsity Softball team

            May 29th – Finished 4th in the 6 team Bronson Polish Classic Tournament on Saturday.  In pool play, the Comets dropped game one to Buchanan by a score of 1-4.  Jordan Kellogg drove in Ashley Bernard with the Comet’s only run.  H-H bounced back by scoring six runs in the 6th inning of game two to defeat Williamston 7-2.  Rosemary Wendt, Lauren Howe and Samantha Utter each had two hits for the Comets.  In the consolation game, Bronson defeated the Comets 6-1.  Alyssa Fausneaucht had two hits for H-H.

            June 1st – Lost a doubleheader to Vandercook  Lake 2-3 and 5-6.  Ashley Bernard had five hits, including two doubles and a triple, in the doubleheader for the Comets.

            June 1st – Districts hosted by Hanover-Horton: Jonesville defeated Hillsdale 11-3.  The district semi-finals and finals will be played on Saturday, June 5th starting @ 10:00 a.m. (Jonesville vs. Hanover-Horton) and 12:00 p.m. (Reading vs. Albion).  The finals will be played @ 2:00 p.m.

            Record: Overall 18-19 (One game{scheduling} & one tournament{weather} cancelled).  Conference 6-8.

 

The JV Softball team

            Ending Record: Overall 22-3 (Four games and two tournaments cancelled due to weather).  Conference 11-1 (Two games cancelled due to weather).

 

The Varsity Golf team

            June 3rd – Have qualified for the GOLF STATE FINALS!  The Comets (Johnny Brockie, Corey Clark, Cody Cochran, Sam Spink) shot a team total of 329 at the Cascades Golf Course, finished in 3rd place and qualified for the invite to the State Finals at Grand Valley State’s home golf course – Meadows Golf Course.  The Comets are one of the 12 best boys’ golf teams in the state in our division.

            Record: Cascades Conference Champs: 14-0 (league dual meets) and won the conference tournament.  Finished 2nd at Districts.  Finished 3rd at Regionals.  Qualified for the State Finals. 

            All-Conference: Johnny Brockie, Corey Clark and Sam Spink.

            Coach Jednak: Named the District Area “Coach of the Year”.

              

The JV Golf team

            Ending Record: Conference – Finished in 1st place (One conference jamboree cancelled due to weather).  

 

The Varsity Boys’ Track team

            June 1st – Competed in the Selby Track Classic at Jackson High School.  Jon Clore was an individual winner in the pole vault. 

            Record: Overall 24-38.  Conference 8-6.  Finished 4th in the Cascades Conference.  Finished tied for 11th place at Regionals.

            All-Conference: Jon Clore, Taylor Heath, Ryan Inman, Matt Konieczki, Mark Paquette, Isaac Pringle, Jacob Sexton and Josh Vincent.

            All-Conference Honorable Mention: Tyler Hull, Zack Kruger and Steven Lowe.

            State Qualifiers: Jon Clore, Taylor Heath, Matt Konieczki, Isaac Pringle, Jacob Sexton and Josh Vincent.

 

The Varsity Girls’ Track team

            May 29th – Competed in the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association team state finals at Kent City HS on Saturday and finished tied for 6th.  Lindsey Burdette broke her own school record in the 1600m run and Stacey Richardson broke the school record in the 100m hurdles.  On the day, there were 10 personal records set in the meet.  It was a great day and an outstanding experience.

            June 1st – Competed in the Selby Track Classic at Jackson High School where there were 4 school records broke and several personal records set.  Records broke were: Lindsey Burdette (800m), Katie Pinkerton (300m hurdles), Stacey Richardson (100m hurdles) and the 1600m relay team broke their own record by a second.  Individual winners were: Allison Clark (400m dash), Chara Sykes (high jump), Lindsey Burdette (800m, 1600m), and the 3200m relay team (Lindsey Burdette, Emily Wrozek, Sharon Morgan, Lindsey Chinavare).

            Record: Overall 66-11.  Conference 14-0.  Won the Conference meet-2010 Cascades Conference Champs (two consecutive years).  Won the Regionals-2010 Regional Champions!

            All-Conference: Lindsey Burdette, Lindsey Chinavare, Allison Clark, Megan Hubbard, Amanda McConeghy, Kelly Morgan, Sharon Morgan, Katie Pinkerton, Stacey Richardson, Chara Sykes, Brianne Wollpert and Emily Wrozek.

            All-Conference Honorable Mention: Randi Fleming and Sierra Melling.

            State Qualifiers: Lindsey Burdette, Lindsey Chinavare, Allison Clark, Megan Hubbard, Sharon Morgan, Katie Pinkerton, Stacey Richardson, Chara Sykes, and Emily Wrozek. 

 

The Girls’ Soccer Club team

            June 1st – Lost to Columbia Central 0-8 in the Districts held at Columbia Central.

Ending Record: Overall 6-5-1(tie).  Finished 2nd in the conference and lost in the District opener.

            Ending Record: Overall 2-6.  Conference 1-6.
