The Lady Comets opened the 2016-2017 season at home with a win over Concord in a game that the Comets had to come from 10 points down with a little over 5 minutes remaining. The game opened with both teams scoring early and the lead changing hands several times. The Comets opened the 2nd quarter on a 6 point run and held a 6 point lead at the half. The Yellow Jackets came out of half time on fire and outscored the Comets 16-5 in the 3rd quarter. The lead grew to 10 with 5:15 remaining in the game when Gwynne Demeuse hit a 3-point shot from the top of the key. Kristen Thompson stole the in-bounds and was fouled, making both free-throws. Brinna Melling then stole the next in-bounds pass and made a running shot into the lane to cut the Concord lead to 3 points. The Comets continued the pressure and broke away in the last minute of the game winning 53-46. Melling led the Comets with 18 points, Thompson added 17, and Demeuse pitched in with 11. The Comets go on the road to face Homer this Friday.
The JV team lost 39-20. The Lady Comets opened up a 9-1 lead midway through the 2nd quarter but couldn’t sustain the pressure on the Yellow Jackets.
