Numerous thank you notes were sent to the Board from the elementary students, thanking them for the wonderful playground.  Also a Thank You note was read from a Ruth Crep Scholarship recipient.

During Public Comment, an elementary parent wanted the Board to be aware of the larger class sizes.  The Board was aware and will continually monitor it. Tracy Stierle, HHEA President, requested suggestions as to what would be an appropriate way to communicate the Board members outside of the board meetings.

Lion’s Club officers Walt and Barb Triechel along with their past District Governor, Peggy Allen, were present to recognize one of our students, Sydnee Gifford.  Sydnee as a middle school student, was a Charter Member of the Hanover-Horton Leo Club.  Sydnee is currently a junior and has served as the club’s Vice President and as a President.  Sydnee has earned the 2015-2016 Leos of the Year Award.  This is an international award in which the recipients are chosen through the Lions Clubs International Board of Directors.

Superintendent Denney reported our current enrollment is 1140, whereas, 36 percent are school of choice students.

The overview of the 2015-2016 Budget Revision will be tabled until next month.  A couple items needed more information prior to presentation.

The Board approved a proposal presented by Site One Landscape Supply to recondition both the softball and baseball fields.  Our facilities will be used as a demo day for their employees and their suppliers to show other maintenance workers and coaches how to properly repair and maintain their fields.  This is work that would need to be done soon for likely the same amount of money; this opportunity gives us access to several free upgrades from the suppliers and a professional installation.  The entire project is eligible for the Sinking Fund and would not impact the General fund.

Superintendent Denney reported to the Board members on the following:

  • The building testing scores will be presented at the October meeting
  • Cross Country will be hosting a spaghetti dinner
  • Middle School will be hosting a Parent Math Night on September 26 at 6 p.m.
  • Cross County will be hosting a 5K Fundraiser at Heritage Park
  • Muffins with Mom will be this Friday in the elementary, sponsored by the PTA
  • Our enrollment numbers are better that expected
  • Thanks to the HHEA for helping work on the evaluations
